About SWS
StartWithSuccess.org (SWS) is managed by the Florida Department of Education, Educator
Quality Division. SWS content is aligned with content on other websites maintained
by the Department of Education:
What the site does: SWS provides information and
professional learning resources for members of the Florida education family who
are new to the profession or are in situations which provide limited access to the
professional learning systems provided thru Florida's school districts. This new
version of SWS, launched in December, 2010, provides information, training, and
portals to a broad array of sites useful to SWS users.
History: The original version of SWS, StartwithSuccess.com,
was developed for the Department by Paradox Learning Systems in 2005-2006. It focused
on orientation information for beginning teachers and substitutes. The site, unchanged
until 2010, was hosted at a private provider's site.
The New SWS: In 2010 site hosting was moved to the
Florida Center for Interactive Media (FCIM)
in Tallahassee and redesign, expansion, and updating of the site was initiated by
the Florida Department of Education's Division of Educator Quality. Programming
and site maintenance functions are now provided by FCIM.
This new site, StartWithSuccess.org, replaced the original ".com" version in June,
2011. Learning tools, resources, and modules were added as regular features of the
site. In addition to continuing to serve the interests of new teachers, content
was added for a wider range of users (e.g. aspiring teachers, teachers new to Florida,
mentor teachers). Information portals for all SWS users were added.
Over time, SWS content is updated and modified to reflect changing conditions and
interests of SWS users.
