Some Tips For Your Appearance
Hair - Keep your hair cut and trimmed regularly. It should be neat and off your face. If you color your hair, don't let your roots get too long. Keep mustaches and beard neatly trimmed.
Clothing - Wear appropriate business or business/casual dress. Your clothes should be clean, pressed, and in good condition. Never wear anything provocative or revealing. If others at your school are dressing down, remember that you do not have to do the same. If you want to be taken for a professional, remain sharp and neat.
Shoes -- Your shoes should be clean, matched with your clothes, polished where necessary, and without holes, cuts, or run down heels. Don't wear running shoes or sneakers, unless required by your teaching assignment.
Jewelry - Your jewelry should be unobtrusive and not too flashy. Don't wear too much. Professionals wear fewer pieces of nice jewelry. It doesn't have to be expensive to look good. Strive for simplicity. Match jewelry, earrings, necklaces and bracelets to your clothing.
Makeup - Less is more. Again, simple basics are best. You will know what works best for your look. Just don't overdo it. Conservative, classic colors in lipstick and nail polish are best.
Posture and Body - Stand straight and hold your head up. Look people in the eye. Smile. When sitting, hold yourself erect. When shaking hands, give a firm short handshake with eye contact and a smile or greeting. Be alert and attentive to others.
Ties/Jackets/Dresses -- Be aware of the fashions. Stick with the classics. Don't stray too far from what is considered businesslike for your area.
