I was always prone to migraines and in my first year of teaching, I had one nearly every weekend for six months. I was so stressed out during the week that my body was in some kind of over drive. Then, as soon as the weekend came, I would get the migraine. As sure as clockwork, I'd wake up Saturday morning with a whole day of relaxation ahead of me and with a migraine. I'd have to spend the whole day, and sometimes even Sunday too, in bed. It was awful. How did I deal with it? I knew I had to get the stress under control before it killed me. I started meditating, which was something new for me, and riding my bike. I got into a pattern where, when I was riding, I could zone out and completely forget my troubles for as long as the ride lasted. And, I meditated almost every day - as often as I could. I just read a book about it and started doing it. By the end of the year I was only having migraines occasionally. I'd say I was able to cut them back about 80%.
