Time management as a teacher is just like it is in the rest of your life. No doubt you feel that you don't have enough time to do all of the things that are required of you. Again, planning is the key. Thinking about your day, what needs to be done and how you can accomplish it all is a fabulous first step to actually doing it. When you move forward with a plan, instead of haphazardly, you will discover that you can get a lot more done that you ever imagined. Planning puts into your mind, ahead of time, a mental schedule that you will use to allocate your activities and your time. It really works. Studies have shown that people who have planned for something are far more likely to actually do it than those who haven't planned.
If you break down a single class period it falls into the following basic parts:
Getting settled Down
General Housekeeping
Beginning a Lesson
Ending a Lesson
Dismissing the Class
Again, planning and preparation are important to make efficient use of your time. Set up routines and familiarize your students with the routines at the beginning of the year. Click on each of the items listed above to learn more.
